Chiropractic was developed in the late 1800's by a man named D.D. Palmer. Dr. Palmer observed that there was an energy, which he called Universal Innate Intelligence, that filled the universe. He called the part of Universal Innate Intelligence that flowed through an individual person, their Innate Intelligence. This life-giving energy was conducted from the brain in the form of nerve impulses flowing down into the spinal cord, and then out the spinal cord via the nerves to all the cells and organs of the body and back again. He realized that the free, unobstructed flow of Innate Intellifgence by way of nerve impulses was essential to the healthy functioning of all the cells and organs and gave one the feeling of well-being.
Dr. Palmer noticed that various physical, chemical, and psychological insults could cause obstructions of the nerve impulses as they left the spinal cord, thus reducing the flow of the individual's Innate Intelligence from the brain to target cells and organs. A reduced flow would lead to reduced function, then, if uncorrected, (and sometimes not until years later) to symptoms and disease (not just of the back, but in any part or the whole of the body). He called these obstructions SUBLUXATIONS, from the Latin "sub", meaning "reduced", and "lux", meaning "light", indicating that a subluxation is a reduction or block on the "light" or energy of an individual's Innate Intelligence.
Dr. Palmer discovered that the body's natural attempt to eliminate subluxations and restore health could often be facilitated through the application of heart-felt and technically precise physical movements along the spine and associated structures. He called these helpful movements ADJUSTMENTS.
Dr. Palmer saw that, in addition to (and sometimes instead of) doctors that focused on trying to mask or change symptoms through drugs and surgery, there was a great need for doctors who honored the power of the patient's Innate Intelligence (and its connection with Universal Innate Intelligence). These doctors would perform adjustments to help restore the full and unobstructed flow of the patient's Innate Intelligence, so that it could do its job of keeping every part of the body optimally healthy. He named this profession of doctors CHIROPRACTORS (from the Greek "chiro" meanings "hands" and "practic" meaning "the practice of", or - poetically - the "doctors who heal with their hands" in order to help the "light of the person's own Innate Intelligence shine bright" again).
THANK YOU D.D. PALMER!!!
